Tanzania: Second Phase of Rural Electrification Project Almost Complete - Govt

 Dodoma — The second phase of the rural electrification programme is 91 percent completed by, the deputy minister for Energy and Minerals, Mr Medard Kalemani has said.

 
The programme, which is rolled out by Rural Energy Agency (REA) is expected to end this month to pave the way for the third phase.
 
Mr Kalemani said the third phase aims to connect all villages in the country to electricity but focus will be put on connection social amenities such as water pumps, schools and health facilities.
 
Mr Kalemani was answering Mr Richard Ndassa (Sumve - CCM) who wanted to know the progress made in phase two of the project.
 
"It will be good to know the progress of the second phase before we embark on the third phase," said Mr Ndassa.
 
Mr Kalemani allayed fears among MPs noting that plans to electrify all villages in the country were still on cards.
 
Answering Mr George Kakunda (Sikonge - CCM) earlier, Mr Kalemani noted that all villages lined for connection in Sikonge District will be connected.
